1st house, 1st step
How could we make wedding preparations a little more complex ? How could we create a home that truly felt like ours ? By renovating everything from scratch !
A nice challenge, we tackled as a couple by doing most of the work ourselves. A slightly crazy idea, but also a great opportunity to be able to buy a small house in Nantes
In 2022, no one wanted to buy it and for a good reason : the house was in complete disarray
Phase 1 : Building healthy foundations
May 2022, with the keys in our hands, we set off for the hard work.
Here began the demolition : part great satisfaction, part heavy lifting.
What came next ? Rethinking everything and focusing on our core strengths. We needed to make the spaces livable again.
It meant many hours of work and countless trips to the store, but we never lost motivation. Electricity, concrete slabs, drywall, plastering, sanding, flooring… heavy work to bring the house back to life and make it functional again.
After 8 months, with the bathroom and bedroom completed, we moved in. The kitchen was still temporary and the décor remained minimal. But the major structural renovations were done.
Phase 2 : The expansion phase begins
After several meetings with the city planning office, we obtained the permit for an entirely new level : our future living room + kitchen.
The carpentry team did an amazing job in just a few months. Then came other more delicate challenges : waterproofing, partial roof demolition, and the installation of the stairs…
We hired professionals for the structural work, but the rest stayed in our hands. Back to wiring, plumbing, insulation, and drywall. Again, plastering and sanding to get the best possible space.
Day after day, we got closer, sometimes late into the night. I even picked up a few white hairs (in my beard) along the way, but here we are at last.
We can now cook great meals in that luminous new kitchen and host friends, family, and even Volt members
Phase 3 : From dream to reality
4 years later, new projects lie ahead : a second cosy room and an office are planned. Yet, as always, we managed our busy schedule between making big steps and taking time for ourselves.
Doing what we can, not what we must. We are proud of what we’ve built, and of being able to show our family that we had a clear vision and turned it into reality.
